SBIG Award for Excellence in
Astronomical Imaging

Award for Excellence in Astronomical Imaging

The effort it takes to produce some of the best astronomical images in the world by amateur astronomers often goes unrewarded.  We continue to be amazed at the degree of accomplishment of an increasing number of imagers who almost routinely produce images far surpassing those that were taken by professionals only a short time ago.  These accomplishments do not come easily, however, even with the best equipment.  It still takes old fashioned dedication, enthusiasm, skill, knowledge and a love for astronomy.  Certainly the best efforts deserve some kind of reward, and SBIG hopes to fill this need in some small way with our Award for Excellence in Astronomical Imaging.

We would like to acknowledge, and thank, those who have captured some of the best astro-images in the world using our equipment. These imagers represent many of the best qualities found in amateur astronomy.  They work tirelessly to improve their skills and continue to help others by sharing what they learn.  This award will be memorialized with an 11" brass armillary sphere trophy, a certificate, and inclusion of a personal page in the Honors section at our web site highlighting the imager and his or her work.  A plaque with a link to the recipient's page will be added to the SBIG Hall of Fame.

Recipients will be announced on our web site and on the SBIG User's Group as the presentations are made.  We will begin announcing the award recipients in June.  Imaging will not be the sole criteria for presenting the award.  Contributions to and advancement of amateur astronomy as well as scientific or technical achievements will all be considered.
